Antique Victorian Mahogany Games Card Roulette Table 19th Century

The hinged triple top opens to reveal the green baize lined gaming interior for playing cards with counter recesses, and opens again to reveal a further panel with roulette wheel, counter wells with counters and the green baize marked roulette scoring panel.

The table sits on solid mahogany fluted square tapered legs, headed with horizontal fluted panels, terminating in spade feet with brass castors.

It is an elegant piece which will enhance a special room in your home.

THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION.

The roulette table was commissioned by King Edward VII in 1907 from the American inventor Sir Hiram Maxim. He was to develop a tamper-proof roulette table. The table in question was completed and put to the test in September 1908. Lord Rosslyn, a notorious London gambler sat down at the table with a £10,000 stake and lost it all in the course of ten days. The so-called King’s Table remained in the possession of the inventor and was later passed on to his grandson, Colonel Maxim Joubert, who then passed it on to his doctor.

Condition:
In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed in our workshops, the Roulette baize is original, please see photos for confirmation.
