This exceptional antique Burmese silver bowl has a circular shaped, rounded form with a flared undulating upper portion.
The surface of the bowl is embellished with fine scenes of embossed and chased decoration depicting a series of iconic Burmese figures in high relief, each bearing the features of an animal.
As with the vast majority of these bowls, the continuous frieze of figures relates to Burmese folklore.
The scenic ornamentation to this antique Burmese silver bowl is amidst scrolling borders accented with a vertebrate band of foliate and floral ornamentation to the upper portion.
The bowl is supported by a plain tapering collet style foot embellished with an engraved undulating vine and leaf decorated border.
The interior of this impressive example of antique silverware retains the original gilding; this has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion to an aesthetically pleasing mellow color.
Condition
This antique Burmese silver bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition. The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp. There are no hallmarks as to be expected with such a piece; the date and origin can be determined by the composition and decoration.
