19th century hand carved apothecary shop display figure.
A rare hand carved 19th century apothecary shop display figure. Of German origin this figure would likely have sat either on the shop counter or in the window of a pharmacy of sorts. Dressed in traditional period attire holding an oversized mortar and pestle. Hand carved from a single piece of oak displaying a wonderful, aged patina.

Condition Report: Completely solid in structure and form, with a deep patination and natural age across all the figures surfaces. Naturally, aged wooden grain knots and splits across the figure. 19th Century Meiji Period Bronze of a Boy Collecting Sweet Chestnuts by Seiya

A charming Meiji period bronze of a boy collecting sweet chestnuts by Seiya, he carries a basket and is looking down at an insect crawling over his hand, he is also evidently wearing adult sandals, signed in a seal ‘Genryusai Seiya zo’. Japanese, circa 1880.

Measures: H 12in L 12in W 7 ¼ in

Footnote: Genryusai Seiya was the master craftsman in charge of a workshop which specialized in export wares of the highest quality. Production included human genre figures, vases and exotic bronze models of animals probably influenced by the opening of Tokyo Zoological Gardens in 1882.
