This large and elegant French bibliotheque, bookcase is made of solid French walnut and dates to the latter half of the 1800s. It recently came from a beautiful home in the Northwestern France, where it was well kept for many years. The 19th Century Grand French Louis XVI Bookcase that can also serve as a Vitrine, is a masterwork of epic proportions! Soaring to nine feet in height, it was sculpted by master artisans from solid French Walnut, and features pierce-carved detailing of floral and foliate motifs overlaid atop the glasswork on the upper tier. There is a glass pane in the crown, down the stile, even on the mitered corners with the carved overlay! The elaborately carved lower section with complementary mitered cornerposts opens to reveal cavernous storage, while the glazed upper tier is the perfect place to display your finest family heirlooms, books, or most cherished collection. The drawer tier in between is carved with Greek wave motif for a classic touch. Bold molding throughout the design delineates the special features and creates a framework for the artistry, especially visible in the boldly arched crown centered with a solid walnut bouquet at the top that is a work of the sculptor’s art!
