A refined side table made of burr walnut veneer on an oak base, with elegant tapered legs, at the ending gilt bronze clawfeet. The table has extra server drawers on both sides. Around the top a copper rim. The table is stamped on the bottom: Maison L’Escalier de Cristal Paris. Shows light scratches at the top from previous use but remains in good condition, see pictures.
L’Escalier de Cristal, Parisian firm created about 1800 by Mme veuve Desarnaud, famous under the French « Restoration » for its decorative objects combining crystal and bronze. She was awarded a gold medal at the 1819 Paris Exposition.
The quality of her creations was unanimously recognized during the exhibition of French industrial products in 1819 where she won the gold medal with the dressing table of the Duchess of Berry. The quality and the execution of the furniture are such that they were sometimes taken for the originals. (Source: Wikipedia).
