On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will appreciate the scale of this rug’s drawing as a bold and atypical element for its period. An azure blue field underscores these large-scale floral patterns, which enjoy a range of reds and browns (with particular emphasis on burgundy and near-black tones). This rug’s particular design also draws on the leaves and palmettes seen in Safavid, Mughal, early Ottoman and similar rug provenances. The adaptation of a sixteenth- and seventeenth-century “saz” florals to a rug of this nature is both extremely collectible and gorgeously executed for its period—a true connoisseur’s and collector’s piece among the few that remain of its caliber.
Condition:
This antique Indian rug has some wear, with more corrosion in the dark brown sections and otherwise light surface stains. Available as is or with further restorations for an added cost upon request.
