Original and very special pair of sconces; for each sconce on a chrome-plated brass box, in the center is made a support for two opposing points of light, excellent for perfect light distribution, on the sides of the support are skillfully placed two tubes at the ends of which we find bright crystal spheres, while on the back of the box is created a plate for wall attachment; the strong chrome plating to thickness of the objects was obtained by galvanic bath; the craftsman thus achieved a pure and accurate geometric and aesthetic contrast; the sconces therefore on the whole, in addition to the texture and prestige of the shiny chrome-plated brass, have a modern and contemporary design, not too loaded but essential, two unique furnishing accessories, refined and elegant at the same time that adapt naturally and simply to both contemporary and classic environments; were made between 1964 and 1968 in a craft workshop in Milan inspired by a project of Gaetano Sciolari, a famous and prolific Italian designer and entrepreneur, in the Space Age style. Angelo Gaetano Sciolari contributed greatly to the success of Italian design in the world and particularly in the United States. Sciolari was an outstanding businessman, but also a creative designer. Throughout his career, he designed incredible and wonderful lights. After the death of his father in 1949, Sciolari had to run the family business. In just a few years, the designer turned the firm into an international enterprise! Sciolari’s manufacturer became the first Italian light seller in the United States. Gaetano Sciolari and his products have been an inspiration and model for artisans and important Italian lighting companies. The style of the wall sconces is the “Space Age”, this aesthetic current was born at the dawn of the space age, commonly attributed to the launch of Sputnik in October 1957, and continued until the 1970s. The objects of that period are characterized by essential volumes that recall geometric shapes, which definitely broke with the rationalist tradition. Our wall sconces are characterized, as we said, by a “space-like” design, typical of those fascinating times; with their basic and geometric style, they are a real piece of furniture that gives a unique atmosphere to the house.
