Late 20th-Century Chinoiserie-Style Reverse Painted Acanthus Vine Motif Wall Mirror

Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.

This eye-catching Asian-inspired reverse-painted art glass mirror is framed by a gently hand distressed solid wood black frame that sets off the golden ocher and amber reverse painted acanthus vine motif outlined in black. Reverse painted glass is a decorative technique long practiced by artists in Asia and extremely fashionable in the 18th and 19th centuries. Reverse painting requires the artist to paint the design on one side of the glass so it may be viewed the correct way from the other side. The technique provides an unexpected depth to the mirror, when light reflects off of it with an almost glowing effect. The frame measures 30” x 22” x 1” H/W/D; inset reverse painted acanthus vine motif mirror measures 27” x 19” H/W; weight 20 lbs. Colors of the acanthus vine motif are golden ochre and amber outlined in black. Wooden black frame is lightly hand distressed and has been accented with wispy brush strokes of pale gold accenting. I did not photograph the picture showing the wire on the back which will allow you to immediately hang this beauty. In excellent condition structurally; mirror has indiscernible and random mini specks of oxidation that I’ve attempted to capture in photos 7 & 8 that do not detract from its beauty and functionality. This beauty was made sometime in the late 1990s to early 2000s; Old World Design – Dallas makers label on the backside. A whimsically elegant mirror that will tastefully adorn a small entryway or accent wall and complement any décor style with a bit of Chinoiserie-inspired charm.
