A fine & large pair of antique French Sevres porcelain ormolu mounted candle wall sconce lights, mounted with portrait miniatures, circa 1880.
The top of each sconce is inset with a Sevres porcelain portrait miniature of Princess Elizabeth the Sister of Louis XVI & Madame De Montesson the wife of Louis Philippe Duke of Orleans. Below each portrait is a complex ormolu ‘ribbon’ surmounting a large porcelain plaque, the plaques are finely painted in the style of Francois Boucher. Each plaque portrays a courting couple in 18th century dress in a bucolic setting with their pet dogs. To the base are twin gilt bronze candle sconces with acanthus leaf decoration, these sconces can be easily fitted for electricty.
Both the large plaques and the portrait miniatures are marked to the rear with the Sevres mark; blue interlaced L’s with an “A” to the center. Condition is very good, both the porcelain and ormolu mounts have no damage or restoration.
The plaques are of a large size at almost two feet in height, a similar pair without the portrait miniatures and only 15″ in height sold at Christies NY November 23rd 2010 lot # 69 for $7,000.
