This is a most unusual piece appealing to both those who collect cigar cutters, and collectors who seek out silver plated novel items. It consists of a bottom scalloped edged bowl which serves as an ash tray and a receptacle for cigar tips; a cigar cutter is mounted in the middle of the centre stem which is decorated with a floral geometric design to the semicircle below the scalloped edged bud vase above. A nice quality floral relief pattern decorates the bottom of the ash tray. Attached to the side of the bottom bowl is a highly detailed small bird. All in all, this is a fine, well designed and nicely balanced one-of-a-kind item with broad based appeal. The marking is clearly stated and highlighted beneath the small bird (Derby Silver, Birmingham, Conn. with it’s anchor like logo off to the side), attesting to it’s Derby manufacture and Connecticut origin, circa 1885. The Derby Silver Company was established in 1873. The number 1505 is etched on the underneath of the bowl indicating the stock number.
The piece is all original and the silver plate is in excellent all original condition and complete with a beautiful patina.
Dimensions: 4 5/8″ wide x 4 5/8″ high.

Note: Cup at the top might have been used for small cigars; view image to see what that would look like.
