This is a fabulous and rare high quality antique Victorian mahogany metamorphic triple top games table for cards and roulette, circa 1870 in date.<\/p>\n

The hinged triple top opens to reveal the green baize lined gaming interior for playing cards with counter recesses, and opens again to reveal a further panel with roulette wheel, counter wells with counters and the green baize marked roulette scoring panel.<\/p>\n

The table sits on solid mahogany fluted square tapered legs, headed with horizontal fluted panels, terminating in spade feet with brass castors.<\/p>\n

It is an elegant piece which will enhance a special room in your home.<\/p>\n

Complete with chips, playing cards and dice.<\/p>\n

THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION.<\/p>\n

The roulette table was commissioned by King Edward VII in 1907 from the American inventor Sir Hiram Maxim. He was to develop a tamper-proof roulette table. The table in question was completed and put to the test in September 1908. Lord Rosslyn, a notorious London gambler sat down at the table with a £10,000 stake and lost it all in the course of ten days. The so-called King’s Table remained in the possession of the inventor and was later passed on to his grandson, Colonel Maxim Joubert, who then passed it on to his doctor.<\/p>\n
