All of the older french rugs of which we know of may be classed under two principle heading,Aubusson and savonnerie. These differ in technique and texture, but have one common ground for they express a personality which is unmistakingly French! This corridor rug is undoubtedly an Aubusson handwoven in the little city of Aubusson 200 miles south of Paris.
The color and overall feel of this beautiful example echo the taste of the period French interior designers many of whom such as Boucher were distinguished painters. The rug has soft and very subdued shades of creams, greens, salmen with accent of browns. There are extended restorations throughout this carpet performed by professionals and work was done with keeping the originality and integrity of such a masterpiece in mind.
